M'lore: 'Hog 2008' - Annual Food Fest Gets Off to a Splendid Start

Mangalore Feb 10: The annual food festival "Hog - 2008" organized by the Srinivas College of Hotel Management and Vijayalakshmi Institute of Hospitality Sciences was held at the Srinivas college campus at Pandeshwar here on Saturday Feb 9. The students of the college went all out to prove their inherent skill in managing and executing an event of this magnitude, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the participants and visitors to the event.
The food festival was inaugurated by Central Administrative Reforms Commission chairman M Veerappa Moily. It was first organized by the institution in the year 1993, with the sole aim of providing a unique opportunity to young budding students to display their culinary skills as well as learn by practical application the art of management.
The 'Hog 2008' event unfolded with an exquisite blend of high voltage music and lip-smacking delicious food. Indeed it proved to be a sheer delight for the foodies and patrons who are on the constant look-out for variety and adventure where food is concerned.
One counter getting the maximum attention was the one were the salads were on display, which consisted of a wide array of various designs carved out of fruits such as pumpkins, pineapples, papayas, watermelons and different vegetables. Another gastronomical delight was the food on display at the food court, consisting of mouth-watering kasturi kabab, tunday kabab, kalmi kabab, shammi kabab, zeshani, noushi-jan, barbeques, rumali rotis, chaat, and pizzas.
Next to the continental dishes was a separate bakery counter consisting of chizze, genovese, frijole etc from different countries like China, Thailand and Mexico. In addition to this were the traditional Indian cuisines of Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab and Gujarat. All in all an event which will be remembered by the gourmets, foodies and connoisseurs of good food for a very long time.
The chief guests on the occasion were former MUDA president Tejomaya and president of A Shama Rao Foundation A Raghavendra Rao. Vice president of A Shama Rao foundation A Srinivas Rao, president of Vijayalakshmi Education Trust Mithra S Rao, Vijayalakshmi R Rao, principal of Srinivas College of Hotel Management Vinayaraj, and principal of Vijayalakshmi Institute of Hospitality Sciences prof Anil Kumar were also present on the occasion.
