M’lore: Rithesh Navin and Bhagirathi Adjudged Strong Persons of DK and Udupi

Mangalore, Feb 10: Rithesh Naveen D’Souza of city based Bala Anjaneya Gymnasium and Bhagirathi of Veera Maruti Gymnasium, Koteshwar have been selected as the strong man and woman of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts respectively.

They were selected for this honour at the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district power lifting competition and Karnataka State Bench Press Competition-2008, organized by D S Sport Promoters at Urva Stores Grounds on Saturday, February 9 and Sunday, February 10.



The award was presented to them on Sunday, February 10 evening. Meanwhile, V Sudha Prabhu of police team and Ganesh Prasad of city based Bala Anjaneya Gymnasium were adjudged as best woman weight-lifter and best man weightlifter, respectively of the tourney.

Women weight-lifters of Veera Maruti Gymnasium, Koteshwar and Hercules Gymnasium, Kundapur have won the first two prizes for overall performance in this tourney. On the other hand, men weight-lifters of city based Bala Anjaneya Gymnasium, and Shakti Bharat Gymnasium, Thokkottu have won the first two prizes for their overall performance.



During the valedictory programme, Ravindranath, deputy registrar of National Institute of Technology – Karnataka (NITK) Suratkal, entrepreneur Satish Baikampady, Jagdish Shetty, Jayanand Anchan, Ganesh Rao, chairman of Karavali Group of Colleges and others distributed prizes to the winners.

International sportsman, Devdas Kuloor and national sportsman, Sadanand Amin were felicitated on this occasion.

K Sundar Naik, registrar of Mangalore University, presided over the function.
