Mangalore, Feb 12: Afghan delegation consisting of nine members paid a visit to Ira village here in order to study its remarkable achievement in sanitation and community development, on Monday, February 11. They arrived here under the Water and Sanitary Programme of World Bank.
During their visit, the delegation interacted with the local gram panchayat members and collected details on the gram panchayat functions. They also appreciated the efforts of local governance in creating awareness on plastic menace while visiting the ‘plastic hills’ set up in the clean and hygienic village of Ira.
The delegates marveled at the decentralization of local governance and the involvement of the community in developing the village. They also paid visits to schools, houses and Anganawadis in the locality and interacted with teachers and school children.
Ira village, known for its community development and sanitation, had won the Nirmal Gram Puraskar and the delegation aims to make a thorough study of its achievements.
The delegation comprised members of the water and sanitation programme Amin Mohammed Aman, Javed Ahmed, Khawasi, Manan Abdul, Rahman Mujibur, Shafiqullah, Yelani Hameedullah, Yusuf Mohammed and project manager under the ministry of rural development and rehabilitation P Satyanarayana.
The delegates continued their study tour with a visit to Madanthyar in Beltangady.
They are scheduled to visit Kinnigoli and Kasaragod on Tuesday, February 12.
