Bangalore, Feb 12: "Only competition, no reservation," Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav quipped in response to a newsperson's query on the demand being made in some quarters for reservation for Kannadigas in Railway jobs in the State.

Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has ruled out introducing any reservation for Kannadigas in Class ‘D’ posts in the Indian Railways. “Only competition, no reservation,” Lalu quipped in response to a newsperson’s query on the demand being made in some quarters for reservation for Kannadigas in Railway jobs in the State.

The Railway minister was in Bangalore to inaugurate a model railway station at Yeshwantpur on Monday. Lalu said no preference will be given for anyone in recruitments.

When asked for his comments on Raj Thackeray’s utterances on “outsiders” in Mumbai, Lalu made a gesture to indicate that the Maharashtra Navanirman Sena chief was mentally unbalanced.

Earlier, a 20-strong Kannada Rakshana Vedike group staged a protest in front of a train that was to be flagged off by Lalu Yadav and a few even climbed atop it. They were protesting against the large presence of non-natives in Railway jobs in the State. Police took them into preventive custody.

A minor altercation took place between the police and photojournalists when the latter sought to move closer to the minister to get a better view of him when he entered the Yeshwantpur railway station. The policemen screamed at the lensmen, who were keen on getting the best shot.

Dirty people!

Tumkur, dhns: Police resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse Karnataka Rakshana Vedike  activists staging a black flag demonstration against  Lalu  Yadav when he arrived at the railway station here on Monday.

In the melee, Deputy Commissioner S R Umashankar could not  hand over the bouquets brought for the minister.

The protest left Lalu fuming. When reporters met him, the trademark smile was missing. Asked why Kannadigas were not getting priority in Railway recruitments, Lalu merely said: “Dirty people.”

I think he spoke about himself and his Biharis. These people who shamelessly increase caste based quota for votes, suddenly remember merit and competition. Does he have the guts to speak like that to Tamils in Tamil Nadu. He will be sent packing from the ministry if he dares

Politicians being Arrogrant and Ruffians is nothing new. They have set an example of Bad Behaviour/Goverance not only in the Parliament or Assembly but also on the Streets. Even if he takes back his words, back of his mind he will still think of it.

They are good in making irresponsible statements as they are aware no law in India can not touch them. What are the Politicians of Karnataka State doing where the Congress Government Ruled for Many Years.

We have to wait till a People's Representative from Karantaka becomes a Union Railway Minister and at that time we should put forth our case. We have to patiently wait for that to happen.

This is biggest ever shame to our states politicians who were accompanied at that time with this 'Dirty Man'. All Indians know how dirty he is in Bihar. because of his so long governance the people of Bihar still to be taught desciplIne.

It's a right of Kannadigas to ask for reservations in Southern railways. How the Keralites are given reservation in Southern railway, he would have been experienced the heat if he would have made comments for Malayalies.

Our Karnataka politicians are selfish, always begging for money, no guts to talk at top level. Lalu knows these all works in Karnataka, So he will try to push his Bikaris into great Karnataka, the state open to all but not for Kannadigas..

Being a Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav shouln't utter such a phrase 'Dirty People'. Mangaloreans also Kannadigas. We have self respect for our State of Karnataka. I have met several Biharis. Always trouble makers. I use to call them Bikaris instead of Biharis.

Confirm whether Mr. L. Yadav has used these words. If confirmed, Mr. Yadav has to explain this. Perhap's he never meant like this. A person succesfuly taken Indian Railways to compete with other mode of transport in India can never go down to this level.

The demand by Kannadigas was not reservation for the sake of it. In the particular case for the 'D' Group posts in Karnataka it was highly advertised in Bihar and the Kannadigas were kept in dark. It is a practice for all central undertakings to do like this.Kanndigas wanted a level playing field and not clandestine recruitmant as was done by Lalu for recruiting Biharis.

It will be easy to speak of One India etc. but we can talk of it only when Kannadigas get equal opportunities in other states.Laloo must have called his own name when he uttered ' Dirty Fellows'. He was caught red handed cheating Kannadigas and just like Chor Kotwal Ko Dante - he called Kannadigas dirty people - that too on Kannada soil!!! He should not forget that the seeds of success of railway were sown during the tenure of one Kannadiga - Mr. Jaffer Sheriff when Uniguage system was started and Laoo has come at a time when the seeds sown are giving fruits. If he was so efficient why he failed for 15 years in Bihar? Now he is doling out money to various Management Institutes and as a quid pro quo they call him to take classes to project his image.

All his gimmicks did not play with Karnataka people - so he thinks they are Dirty Fellows. It appears Laoo was looking into a mirror and failed to recognise his image while saying so.That is like Chori- Oopar seena Jori!

Perhaps Lalu did not hear properly what the reporter had asked in the noise. He perhaps thought he was asked to comment about the crowd behavior and said what he had to say. With regard to his comments 'Only competition, no reservation' I accept because one should qualify for the job.

Despite the tremendous growth in every sector India has achieved past independence, people still crave for reservation in every sector, be it administrative jobs, education or railways. And now they want reservation even in private IT sector. On what basis? Have they given up hope in life? Are they declaring themselves to be incompetent to compete with the rest?

With the amount of efforts government has put in to facilitate free education all these years one can live without reservation, but apparently they don't want to. Is there anything preventing them from unleashing their abilities? Aren't there any people who despite born with lesser privileges still excelled in life?
