Mangalore, Feb 13: 'Lasyam,’ a dance team of Puttur performed a ballet ‘Yashodhara’ at Town Hall here on Tuesday, February 12 evening.

The Lasyam team headed by Manjula Subrahmanya and consisting of six members, depicted the feelings and sufferings of Yashodhara when her husband Siddhartha became Buddha, the founder of Buddhism in India.

The ballet centred around the theme of a woman's plight in a male dominated family. The ballet also merged the age-old concept with the woman of 21st century. Well-known artiste Sam Kutty Pattomkary from Kerala directed the ballet.

Earlier, a stage programme was held which was inaugurated by Eshwaraiah, editor of Udayavani Sunday magazine. Speaking on the occasion, he said that arts like classical dance or Bharatanatyam can not convey any message to the society. But a ballet can convey a message along with a great level of art experience, he opined.

Lawyer Anita P Shenoy, Chandrashekhar Shetty, Sharada Manishankar, Gangadhar Bellare and Sam Kutty Pattomkary were present on the dais. Krishna Prasad welcomed the gathering.
