Dubai, Feb 18: The evening of Friday February 15, at the Al Noor Auditorium was indeed marvelous. Melody Makers,a well-known institution situated in Karama Dubai promoting dance, music and fine arts hosted a show "Music with Meaning" to create an awareness of togetherness and how through music, human beings can be more sympathetic and empathic to one another.
There was music in the air, and music everywhere as the curtains rolled back and one of the directors Olinda Goveas extended a warm and hearty welcome to the gathering. She in a special manner welcomed the local sponsor Bin Khalifa, Ms. Irfana Al Khatif of Al Noor, their support sponsors, well-wishers and friends and above all the dedicated teachers and students without whom this programme would not have been possible.
She then handed over the mike to the extremely popular, charming, dazzling, and enchating Charu Dawan of Radio 4 FM who took the audience into a dream world. She compered the show with her imitable wit and crispy comments, made the evening a perfect one.
The evening began with a rhythmic western dance, by the students of Melody Makers which set the momentum for the evening's show. This was followed by keyboard medleys, hindi film dances, instrumental numbers etc. While the music was mindblowing, it was really amazing to see tiny tots barely out of their cradles – play the keyboard and dance to the lively numbers so vibrantly which only speaks so well of the Melody Makers centre and the dedicated staff,.
Amongst the items, were some performaces of the Al Noor Special Sutdents. It was really heartening to see how they danced to the tune even though they cannot hear. The Arabic and Goan dances by these students were largely applauded by the audience, and were well-appreciated.
During the programme, Olga Lobo proposed the vote of thanks and requested the local sponsor Tariiq to hand over their contribution (net proceeds of the evenings programme) to Irfan Al Khatif of the Al Noor School. Irfan was deeply touched and thanked the management and students of Melody Makers for their kind thought and generous gesture.
It was also a moment of pride and joy for the dedicated staff to be honoured on stage with a token of appreciation from the management. Tariq was presented a painting by the art teacher Davis.
"Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life," said the famous musician Ludwig van Beethoven and truly without music life is indeed a meaningless journey. Music crosses all barriers of caste and creed, and speaks the language of love. The language that all can converse with and all can feel comfortable and helps people to become better individuals," he said.
The three dynamic sisters / directors of Melody Makers Olga, Olivia and Olinda with their dedication, commitment and enthusiasm have turned this centre (which has trained nearly over 7000 students since its inception 1997) into a centre of excellence. Along with their team of dedicated staff and volunteers who have stood by them, the centre today is a name to reckon with. Apart from having courses for children, they also conduct salsa classes for adults.
