Mangalore, Feb 25: If you happened to stroll through Kadri Park on your usual Sunday evening walk, you might have seen something charging at you from afar, at what seemed to be break-neck speed. As the group swished past you, you might have noticed on closer inspection, a bunch of boys and girls with wheels strapped to their feet.
The children, all members of a roller-skating club, converged at the park to display their skills at skating, a sport also popularly called ‘Fun-on-Wheels’. In all students from twenty-nine different schools participated in the inter-school roller-skating competition which was organized by the Mangalore Roller Skating Club (MRSC) near Kadri Park here on Sunday, Feb 24.
The students averred that it was the thrill for speed, which they could never hope to achieve by running or sprinting, that made them take up skating. It also gets them attention, as it leaves people gaping in awe whenever they go out for practice sessions and especially when they participated in the skating events.
Skating is indeed gaining popularity in the city day by day with kids joining in with unprecendented enthusiasm and love for the sport.
