Hyderabad: House owner who spied on female tenants held


Hyderabad, Feb 27 (Deccan Chronicle) : Chatrinaka police arrested a 40-year-old man from Nalla Pochama in Chatrinaka on Wednesday for voyeurism. The suspect, J. Vijayanand, an electrician, had installed a hidden camera in the section of his house that he had rented to a woman. He would capture her private movements with the device.

During the investigation, police also found that the suspect had installed three more cameras inside other rooms that were rented out. Vijayanand had been secretly recording every private moments of the victims for the last two months.
Chatrinaka police officials said that the suspect monitored his female tenants live using a monitor in his room. Probe officials said that Vijayanand has been obsessed with voyeurism.


“He appears to be obsessed with voyeurism. For the last two months, he spent his time looking at the footages. We are probing if he has shared the visuals with anybody else,” said Falaknuma ACP Tajuddin Ahmed, adding that the suspect is being called a 'psycho' in the locality.

The incident came to light when the woman victim found the hidden camera in her bedroom. The victim later approached police and lodged a formal complaint.
After booking a case, police raided the house and recovered a monitor, a CPU with hard disk, an Intex TV tuner, three spy cameras, a DVR, and pen drives from his possession.

Chatrinaka police said that they have booked a case against the suspect under IPC Section 354-C (voyeurism). The suspect has confessed to the crime. Police said Vijayanand had rented out parts of his house to four families.
