Mangalore, Mar 3: Members of the Kerala Samajam must involve themselves in social activities on a larger scale so as to free the society of hardships and grievances, suggested Ganesh Hosabettu, newly elected mayor of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC).

He was delivering the inaugural address while distributing free wheelchairs to physically challenged persons organised by the Kerala Samajam as the part of its golden jubilee celebrations at Central Railway Station here on Sunday March 2.

Quest for God is not complete until one realizes that God lives among his fellowmen. One can definitely attain proximity to God by helping poor and needy, said Fr M Denis Moras Prabhu, vicar general of Mangalore Diocese, in his blessings.

Out of the 200 wheelchairs allocated, 23 were distributed to the physically challenged persons on the occasion. The rest of the wheelchairs will be distributed later, organizers said.

The programe was organized in association with LIC, Udupi and Health Oriented Project Establishments (HOPE).

T K Rajan, president of Kerala Samajam delivered the presidential address.
