'Duniya’ Walks away with 7 Awards, 5 for 'Milana'

Bangalore, Mar 3: Pyramid Saimira Cinegandha Awards for the year 2007 were presented on Sunday at a glittering function held at Bangalore Palace Grounds.

Padmasri Prof K S Nisar Ahmed inaugurated the function while Parvathamma Rajkumar and Thallam Nanjunda Setty, president, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce were chief guests.

The film Duniya bagged seven awards (debutante heroine, best director, best cinematography, best character artiste, best dialogue writer, best playback singer — female and best playback singer — male).

Puneeth Kumar starrer Milana followed it with five awards (best character artiste — female, best music director, best lyricist, best choreographer and best film) while Aa Dinagal and Cheluvina Chithaara bagged two awards each.

Ganesh bagged the best actor award while Pooja Gandhi got the best actress award. Rashmi and Prajwal are the best debutante heroine and hero.

Late Dr Rajkumar’s sons — Shivarajkumar, Raghavendra Rajkumar and Puneeth Rajkumar — were presented the Dr Rajkumar Thrinethra Award while Rebel Star Ambareesh, Pranaya Raja Srinath, Crazy Star Ravichandran, Sahasa Simha Visnhuvardhan were honoured with Snehajeevi awards.

Music directors Hamsalekha, Gurukiran and Manohar were felicitated with Sapthaswara awards. Music director Rajesh Ramanathan, Mano Murthy and Sadhu Kokila did not turn up at the function.

As part of cultural programmes, dance numbers by Anirudh, Puneeth Rajkumar and Prajwal were highlights of the function.

Among the heroines, Pooja Gandhi and Jennifer Kotwal vied with each other. Heroine Ashitha also entertained the gathering with her dancing skills.
