'Work Earnestly for Growth of Kannada Literature'

Mumbai, Mar 3: A day-long seminar on ‘Modern Kannada Literature: Recent Trends’ was held recently at Vidyanagari at Kalina, Santa Cruz (West) here.

The seminar was held in association with Kannada Sahitya Parishat Maharashtra unit, Karnataka Sahitya Academy and Kannada department of Mumbai University. 

Well-known critic Dr Narahalli Balasubrahmanyam in his keynote address said that one has to work earnestly for the growth of Kannada literature, he urged.

Noted litterateurs Dr M G Hegde, Dr Shamsunder Bidarakundi, Dr Srikant Kudige, Dr Saraju Katkar and journalist Srinivas Jokatte presented papers on the occasion.

Achievers Omdas Kannangar, Bharatkumar Polipu, Dr Veena Vangikar Pune, B S Kurkal, Justice Vasant Kalakoti, Shyamala Prakash, Mohan Marnad, Veena Sarapadi, Avinash Kamath, Surendra Marnad (Suri), Sangeetha Rao, Archana Poojary and others were felicitated on the occasion.

Renowned critic Dr Rahmat Tarike was present at the concluding ceremony.

Dr G N Upadhya, head of department of Kannada, Mumbai University, welcomed the gathering. Poornima Shetty and Ivy S compered the programme. Later, ‘Geeta Gunaja’ programme was held by Shyamala Radhesh group.
