Mumbai, Mar 8: 'Arunodaya Kalaniketan has been doing its best to promote Bharatanatyam, which depicts the cultural hierarchy of ancient India. It deserves the support from government for their endeavour,' said N K Billava, veteran entrepreneur and social worker.
He was speaking during the 49th annual day celebrations of Arunodaya Kalaniketan, which was held recently at Dr Vishweshwarayya auditorium of Karnataka Sangha Mumbai at Matunga.
'M N Suvarna and Meenakshi Sriyan, who are the dance teachers at Kalaniketan successfully promoted Bharatanatyam through their shows world wide. Their service to this art deserves to be applauded,' said N K Billava acknowledging their contributions to Indian art.
Gopal Putran, managing director of Equity Group of Hotels, said that Bharatanatyam has been widely acclaimed across the country. The youth are interested in pursuing this art form, which bears the essence of all the emotions of mankind, he added.
Ashok Purohit, famous astrologer, Suresh Kanchan, chief executive officer of Classic Group of Hotels, S T Poojary and Narayan T Poojary, K Abhishek, hoteliers, Manjit Singh, chief of P V R Films and others were the guests of honour.
M N Suvarna, Natya Guru of Arunodaya Kalaniketan was also present. The merit certificates were presented to all those who passed the annual examinations conducted by Arunodaya Kalaniketan drama institute.
Shweta Chowgule was awarded the best disciple award. Pandit Ravindranat Atibooti, maestro of Odissi dance and Pandit D V Tagore, famous astrologer, were honoured on the occasion.
Meenakshi Sriyan read the annual report. Sanjeev K Salian, chief secretary compered the programme. Navunda Raju Sriyan and L Bhat honoured the guests.
Bharatanatyam and a variety of cultural programmes were staged by Arunodaya Kalaniketan pupils as part of entertainment. Jugalbandi by Kaviraj Suvarna, Tarun and Arun was the special attraction of the programme.
