It is believed by police sources that they had taken Lancy ostensively for the purpose of hiring the rickshaw on March 4 night and later killed him at a isolated area at Gandi in Sevanthi Gudda.

Earlier the task of apprehending the killers was taken up by the crime division constable P Jaganath, who after due investigation gave information about the culprits to the circle inspector Jayanth V Shetty, who was in-charge of the case.

Police then succeeded in nabbing the four culprits with this information. The team comprising of Jayanth Shetty, P S I Shiv Prakash, S P special squad of investigation arrested the culprits.

According to the police, this was clearly a case of mistaken identity. The culprits had made a plan to kill someone else but by mistake they killed Lancy D’Souza. Their plan was to kill a person who was having a affair with a girl which they did not like.

However it is not yet known whom they had planned to kill. Police sources inform that the culprits who managed to escape have a criminal background, one among whom has been released from jail recently.

Police western range I G P A M Prasad has announced rewards for persons coming forward with information on the culprits in this case.

It is very sad that an innocent person has been killed. I know none of our sympathy will fill the void. Only Lord should give them the strength to bear the loss. It is not sufficient to punish these young boys. But it is also important to see whom they were about to kill and what their intention was. It is important to see if these boys are being 'used' for creating trouble by ISI and SIMI.

Their modus operandi is to catch these young boys at a young age and brainwash. We need to be extra vigilant in the light of recent findings of terrorists design to foment trouble in Goa and Karnataka, especially Coastal areas.

This is totally unaccepatable to the people of Mangalore. The Police and the Inteligence team should be accountable to such incidents along with the District Administration.

I was saddened to find out that the crime was committed by some of our Muslim brothers. Killing of an innocent person is absolutely forbidden in Islam and anyone who contemplates or commits any such act, does so against the teachings of Islam. I hope that healing comes to all that were hurt by this henious act

Hashim, bantwal /kuwait Thursday, March 06, 2008 Whats going on in D.k. Police department still sleeping? There is no security to minority. ashraf, Hejmady, Mangalore Wednesday, March 05, 2008 It is so disgusting to hear such news everyday from Mangalore. It is high time that all this is stopped. The trend is clear-the victims are from the minority communities. This must stop.We must fight and the culprits be brought to justice.

These are few sample comments expressed by the so called secular people. Why these people are playing majority minority card? Criminals don't have religion at all. We like it or not in every religion criminals are there. Please without knowing facts dont blame it on some one else.

Mistaken identity or known murder, Lancy has lost his life leaving his family in midway forever. Who is going to take care of them. I agree with Rovina that they should be forced to take care of Lancy's family's expenses.

But my inner soul says that this is not sufficient, they should be hanged to death without any mercy. "if anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or (and) to spread mischief in the land - it would be as if he killed all mankind, and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind. (Qur'an 5:32)". This means, these four have killed Lancy for no reason and it is as if they have killed all the mankind and what punishment should be given to them???

It may be a case of mistaken identity but an innocent life has been lost and a family runined for no fault of theirs. The culprits should be handed exemplary punishment for their misdeeds. They should rot in jail for the rest of their lives

These 4 culprits should be punished and forced to take care of Lancy's family's expense hereafter. it looks like their community girl might have fallen in love with hundu or christian boy and they were planning to kill that boy, instead Lancy became their victim.
