Rioting breaks out in Gurdaspur prison, forces rushed


Chandigarh, March 24 (IANS): Rioting broke out in the Gurdaspur jail in north Punjab on Friday after two groups of inmates clashed which left some inmates injured, the police said.

Senior police and civil officers rushed to the jail, where additional forces too were rushed to control the situation. 

Informed sources said the police and prison security fired shots to control the situation.

Smoke could be seen coming out of a portion of the jail complex, an official said.
