Halt Hindi imposition via highways: PMK

Chennai, March 30 (IANS): PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Thursday urged the Centre to stop imposing Hindi by erasing the town names written in English and substituting them with Hindi on the national highway milestones.

In a statement, Ramadoss said the names of towns on the milestones passing through Dindivanam and Krishnagiri written in English were being erased and substituted with Hindi.

He said the town names were only in Hindi and Tamil.

"This is creating a lot of confusion in the minds of overseas businessmen and tourists travelling on these highways," Ramadoss said.

According to Ramadoss, this seems to be a policy decision of the central government and not taken at the local level.
