Gujarat amends law against cow slaughter, raises penalty to life term

Gandhinagar, Mar 31 (Agencies): The Gujarat Assembly on Friday cleared a tough amendment to the law against cow slaughter in the state, increasing the punishment for such slaughter to life imprisonment.

The older law, amended in 2011, stipulated that cow slaughter would lead to a maximum jail sentence of seven years.

The amended law also increases penalty for the offence from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh, said NDTV.

The Gujarat Animal Preservation Act of 1954 also says the punishment for transporting of cows will be 10 years in jail.

This is the toughest law against cow slaughter in the country, NDTV reported.

How about protecting female fetuses? Cow meat is fair game for poor people and this ban will end in animal cruelty as old cows will be ill treated.

A deep-seated cultural preference for boys is skewing India's sex ratio and making slaves of women.
"Every day around 2,000 girls are killed in the womb or immediately after birth in India," though a UN report says the daily number is around 7,000.

Now Gujarat government has lowered the value of females lower than the cow which they compared earlier to malnourishment to beauty due to non vegetarian practice.

What about the killing of humans in the name of sanctity of cow?
Is this rule also applies to beef exports of Gujarat which use free port of Adani?

Arre Baba, now I will not go to Gujarath, even if someone gives me free ticket in bullet train. I used to go to Daman , but now, never, since, I have to pass thru Gujarath. Who knows, even if the cow dies by natural cause, someone can say, I am responsible. One could be high in spirit in Daman, since spirit is cheap there . But, now, not worth, due to the penalty of life imprisonment.

No , still a long way to go , we need death punishment for killing rats , 20 years for slaughtering pigs, 10 years for throwing stones at crows , 5 years for frying fish , only then I will say the nation is going in right direction.

They are dead against the rape, molestation, attack on foreign students etc etc which is taking place on a daily basis but wasted no time in passing such a bizarre law. India is becoming a laughing stock under these jockers. I bet one day the 'cow' will be the cause for the downfall of this party.

Cow slaughter gets life term and rapist or a molester gets 3, 5 or 7 years term. What kind of leaders have we appointed to rule our country? There are so many important issues in this country at the moment and our politicians debating and wasting time on lleast importance issues.
