Explosive defused in St. Petersburg apartment

Moscow, April 6 (IANS): Russian police on Thursday defused an explosive device at an apartment in St Petersburg where suspected accomplices of a man who launched a deadly attack on the city's metro system lived.

The Investigative Committee of Russia said several people who had been in contact with Akbarzhon Jalilov, the man authorities believe was behind Monday's attack that killed 14 people, had been arrested. Efe news reported.

"The device was deactivated," the head of the district told the media, adding that the suspected accomplices had been detained.

Jalilov allegedly detonated an explosive in the city's metro system between the central Sennaya Square and Tekhnologichesky Institut stations on Monday.
