Aligarh: Saying 'talaq' three times will not lead to divorce: Vice-President's wife

Aligarh, Apr 9 (IANS): Amid the ongoing nationwide debate over triple talaq, Salma Ansari, the wife of Vice President Hamid Ansari, said on Saturday that just saying 'talaq' thrice does not amount to a divorce.

"There can be no talaq just because someone says 'talaq, talaq, talaq' three times," she said, and also urged Muslim women to read the Quran thoroughly instead of relying on clerics for their views on Islam.

"Whatever maulanas said you think it's true. You read the Quran in Arabic but never read its translations. Women should read the Quran, contemplate, gain knowledge what the Shariat says and not just follow anyone blindly," she told reporters here after participating in a programme at Chacha Nehru Madarsa run by Aligarh's Al Noor charitable society.

Triple talaq - a controversial Muslim practice in the subcontinent - has been challenged in the Supreme Court. It is an Islamic practice where a man can divorce his wife by saying "talaq," the Arabic word for divorce, three times.

    in islam even the truth and lies are clearely depicted as black and white where no confusion for any practicing believers. Now we see lot of argument about triple talaq but not for any practicing muslims and its only for namesake muslims or disbelievers or hypocrytes . In quran its ordered to offer namaz five times a day but not depicted in quran how to pray. Its from hadees and prophets sunnah or his way of life we came to know the procedures of namaz depend on what prophet said { OFFER SALAH AS I OFFERED}. Understanding of quran with hadees is must and if any confusion muslims must consult islamic schollars as told by our prophet. But in india some munafiqs or hypocrytes and namesake muslims are intrested in consulting various tv channels anchors or modi cabinet or yogi cabinet about an islamic matter which looks like big joke.

    AND THERE IS NO ENTRY TICKET TO ENTER INTO MOSQUE, IT'S TOTALLY FREE.

    IN ABUDHABI, NEAR YOUR PLACE, THERE IS SHEIKH ZAYED MOSQUE, WHERE MANY TOURISTS VISITS,

    IT IS ALSO FREE. THEY DON'T LOOT MONEY FROM THE PEOPLE. INFACT THEY GIVE CHARITY TO THE POOR.

    Moulani Salma ansari is a renowned islamic scholar, having done phd in sharia law and whatever she says is correct and muslim women should not listen to any Ulema other than this Moulani. Moulani Salma is the right leader of muslim women. she is practicing religion 100 percent and is a pious muslim. she has already got ceertificate of Jannat. she should be elected as sole custodian of Indian muslims. I am sure that all indian muslim women will get relief + peace under her leadership.

    @Shamon,
    Let us prevent our own sisters and daughters from becoming the victims of Triple talaq (in one go) rather than attacking others. Now a days many muslim organizations campaigning against dowry system, at the same way we can persuade the muslim youths not to abandon the wife just by sending the whatsapp messages.

    If there is any genuine reason to divorce the wife, let everybody follow the normal Talaq rules and legal procedures. In real life nobody will tolerate when their own sister or daughter divorced by husband saying triple talaq and they will sue or lynch him. But on media some muslim men and clerics are supporting Triple talaq, i don't know why???
