Nepal Airlines captain held with undeclared $93,000


Kathmandu, Apr 10 (IANS): A senior pilot with Nepal Airlines has been arrested with a huge amount of undeclared money in US dollars from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), a media report said on Monday.

Senior Captain Subarna Awale was arrested with $93,600 during the final security check for boarding a flight to Dubai, according to a source from the Tribhuvan International Airport, the Himalayan Times reported.

Awale was to command the flight RA 229 to Dubai, scheduled for 11.30 p.m., when he was caught with the hidden cache of foreign currency in his hand luggage.

Awale was taken in custody at Gaushala police circle and investigation was underway, a senior police officer told the Himalayan Times.

Awale told the police that he was taking out the fortune to send it to his daughter who studies in the US.

The Nepali national flag carrier sent Captain M.M. Dangol to take the flight to the destination to Dubai.
