Oppn approaches Prez, alleges voices of dissent being muzzled

New Delhi, Apr 12 (PTI): Major opposition parties today met President Pranab Mukherjee and put forth their concern over recent incidents of violence, including attacks by cow vigilantes, and efforts to "muzzle voices of dissent".

A delegation of leaders of various political parties, led by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, called on the President at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and sought his urgent intervention "to ensure the rule of law" in the country.

They presented a memorandum to him listing their various concerns and urged the President to ensure that constitutional democracy and fundamental rights of citizens are protected.

After the delegation met the President, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad said "an environment of fear and insecurity is prevailing in the country and voices of dissent are being muzzled".

"We have requested the President for his urgent intervention to protect India's constitutional democracy and safeguard the fundamental rights of citizens to ensure the rule of law in this country," he told reporters. The delegation also raised issues of alleged EVM tampering during their meeting.

Ofcourse there is an environment of fear and insecurity is prevailing only for Congress and it's allies. The fear is that people have started to understand the false propaganda by congress because of which people have started to reject Congress.

President Mukherjee should honestly take responsibility for the present chaos in the nation after his blind signature on the 'Maharashtra cow slaughter bill' which emboldened the BJP ruled states to introduce draconian laws.
Being first man of the nation he should have know the constitutional value and right to food written in Article 21.India probably has the world’s worst malnutrition problem. Rather than solve it, India’s politicians are making it worse by denying the country cheap protein.

“How can I force anyone not to slaughter cows unless he is himself so disposed? It is not as if there were only Hindus in the Indian Union. There are Muslims, Parsis, Christians and other religious groups here.”-Mahatma Gandhi

And it bears pointing out that beef is a mass food. Around 80 million Indians eat beef, a number which is larger than the population of France, Britain or Italy. Moreover, these beef eaters are some of the poorest, most socially disadvantaged people in the country, consisting mostly of Muslims and Dalits. To make things even worse, alternate sources of protein are simply getting too expensive for many of India’s poorest citizens. The prices of dal, a staple way to take in protein, have simply skyrocketed. As a final straw, many Indian states have also banned eggs from the midday meal, yet again denying Indian children crucial protein because of a religious decree.
A secular state cannot simply cave in to majoritarian demands. History and the modern fate of nations that are succumbing to such instincts – look at Pakistan, Turkey, Israel, Iran, parts of Europe and many Arab countries that were once secular – indicates a loss of not just founding ideals but a subversion of institutions and a loss of the rule of law.
In double-quick time, it becomes normal to hate, kill or terrorise in the name of God. Between banned beef and expensive dal, how are poor Indians supposed to get enough protein?

I do not hate any party but hate evil doers. There is too much of evil by the BJP creating violence and fear everywhere. Their ram rajya is all about yoga, cows, romeos, attacking Muslims, Christians, dalits and all those who think. They are incapable of doing any good. Good to have a Presidential rule in the country

Sucking blood of poor, dalits, minorities and of lower caste is drama and dombarata to BJP and RSS and they enjoy it. What is true for BJP is slapping false sedition charges on opposition for some completely unrelated issues not at all connected with the country to muzzle thier voice.

Is this the new drama Congress started now?. They couldn't succeed with old tactics like intolerance, award vapasathi, JNU issue, Gujarat Patel, Vemula issue and pappu's special drama. Congress should think that, people are smarter than what they are thinking. We will know the fate of Congress in Karnataka and 2019 central election.

Opposition has to be vigilant always does not matter even if its not having big numbers but these are major issues /concerns which the President should be appriased off.
There are many railway safety, farmers problems , EVM, led light scam ,beef vigilante, fee hike in college, reduced focus on irrigation and water, CBI/IT targetting only select parties and states and many other issues

President should seriously think about imposing president's rule India now. People have lost faith on all govt establishments. There is no law and order, democracy has been crushed. All judicial systems and courts have become BJP's legal Printing Press only to print "Clean Chit" to its stooges and slap all kinds of charges, fabricated and concocted on its rivals.
