Mangalore, Mar 18: Around 14,701 students from the district wrote for their II Pre-University (PU) examinations which were held at 38 centres on Monday March 17. While commerce and chemistry examinations were held in the morning, the exams for psychology papers was held in the afternoon, and it went off peacefully, informed R Basavarajappa, deputy director of PU Directorate.
On the second day on Tuesday March 18, Kannada exam was held for all combinations.
Additional 15 minutes grace time which was given by the administration to scan the question paper was utilized by all students, he added. According to students of St Aloysius College who appeared for the exams, this move was widely welcomed as they could now scan through the questions for 15 minutes and decide on the questions they would answer.
According to the chief of the district-level vigilance squad and deputy commissioner M Maheshwar Rao there were no incidents of malpractice reported from the district. Statistically 13,506 (the highest number of students) writing the exam papers were from the city, while Sullia had the lowest number at 1,961 students. Prohibitory orders enforced around the 200-metre radius at each centre will continue till March 29, informed sources here.
After writing the papers on the first day of the II PU exams, a sense of relief prevailed and there was mixed reactions from students. While students by and large were satisfied with their performance in subjects like business studies and chemistry papers, there were still minor hitches as well. On the other hand psychology students on the whole seemed to be quite pleased, an indication that the paper was liked by the majority.
Udupi:
Deputy director of department of PU M Cheluvappa said that as many as 14,333 students who had registered, had appeared for the said exams. According to him 22 centres had been created in the district for the examination. This included three centres in Udupi, that is, Poornaprajna College, MGM College and Government College in Udupi.
Moreover Cheluvappa was pleased to inform that no incident of malpractice had been reported on the first day of the examination. These exams will conclude on Saturday March 29. Adequate security and all other arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of the examination, he added.
