IUML leads with over one lakh votes in Kerala by-poll

Malappuram (Kerala) Apr 17 (IANS): With 54 per cent of the total votes counted on Monday Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) legislator P.K. Kunhalikutty increased his lead to over a lakh votes in the Malappuram by-poll in Kerala.

From the time the counting of votes statrted at 8 a.m. the IUML strongman was far ahead of his nearest rival -- CPI-M candidate and youth leader M.B. Faisal; while the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate N. Sreeprakash was a distant third.

Meanwhile, Kunhalikutty came out of his home as jubilant supporters shouting slogans lifted him up.

Speaking to the media as supporters egged him, Kunhalikutty said they have led in village councils where the Left is ruling.

"This is because the electorate have placed faith in me as I spoke about the need for a secular outlook. Also the unity of the Congress-led-UDF has helped us in this," Kunhalikutty added.

The total turnout at Malappuram by-election on April 12, was 71.33 per cent.

The only question that now remains is whether he would be able to better the 1.94 lakh votes that was secured by E. Ahamed in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

The re-poll was necessitated after the death of sitting MP and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader E. Ahamed.

Malappuram district is the citadel of the IUML and Ahamed won the 2014 polls with a record margin.

But during the 2016 assembly elections, the margin of the IUML legislators, who won in all the seven assembly constituencies, came down to 1.18 lakh votes.

Kunhalikutty is leading in all the seven assembly constituencies and in his home assembly constituency -Vengara, his lead has crossed 20,000 votes.

The outcome of the poll could well be the first indicator on how well the 10-month-old Pinarayi Vijayan government has functioned.

My question for a few Chaddis, who are Scared & Worried of minorities. If we count all Minorities together they are just 20% including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhist etc......remaining 80% Hindus. The ratio is 4:1, still you are scared of mostly Muslims & Christians. The reason is simple, among the minorities there is no division of upper caste and lower caste , they pray together in their respective Holy places, anyone can become a preacher from any family irrespective of poor or rich but you people divide yourself by your caste & creed, restrict entry in Holy places, restrict preaching rights to other Hindus even though He/She is more intelligent in preaching skills and thus make yourself minority in your own Hindu religion as per castewise. Then you people become a Crying Baby in the name CONVERSION!!!!! That's why you are nicknamed as: BLIND BAKHTS

It will never have. Malapurram is the only district in South of India declared as Muslim dominated by the Congress Govt under Indira Gandhi in 1980. IUML which is a communal party based on Religion fanaticism is tied up with Congress at the State level. With a 85% Muslim majority as dominant citizens in district, is there any chance for LDF or BJP? You tell

    IUML should be banned.
As per Supreme court order, one can not lure votes in the name of religion whereas this party has got the name of a religion included in its own name!!

Chandu, point to be noted is that IUML is a political party and openly solicits for votes from public, the others you mentioned are not political organizations and do not ''seek" votes from public

Dear Shanker, do you think BJP is not a communal party. I dont think so. BJP is always asking for vote in the name of religion and as per their menifesto only Hindus should be in india. Shanker, dont try to be innocent. None is trusting you. Please stop such statements which will put you in shame. Try to be Indian first by respecting others. Live peacefull and let live others also peacefully.
