Udupi, Mar 22: Holi the multi-hued festival of colours is here once again. Manipal Varsity students here not to be left behind in celebrating the event, went all out indulging in fun, frolic and revelry in their youthful boisterousness Saturday March 22.
A unique event 'Khelo Holi' was organized by the students of Manipal University at the MJC grounds here. The highlight of the festival was music, food and colours with a dash of new ideas which made it uniquely special to this part of the city.
Everywhere one could see students thoroughly enjoying themselves drenched in coloured waters and throwing colours at each other. Like last year, this time too Kamath Circle situated within the MIT campus was witness to huge crowds celebrating Holi. Students from different colleges gathered together here since morning, with the Holi revelry expected to continue all through the afternoon.
Strictly adhering to the instructions given beforehand, students were seen here playing Holi with natural colours which had been distributed to them free of cost by the organizers. The students made full use of the pure water shower and the artificial swimming pool which had been constructed at the venue for their enjoyment.
On the other hand DJ's Paddy and Rulz who had been invited from Goa set the tempo for the festivities and kept the students and other invitees fully entertained with music suiting the occasion. In addition to this games like 'Matka Phod', 'Govinda Ala Re' kept the students thoroughly engaged and entertained.
The 'Matka Phod' was a special event organized by the students' club. A competition was held among the groups of students to break the matkas (pots) in the least possible time. It was indeed a delightful spectacle to watch the students clambering over each other and finally breaking the matkas. The students who won this event carried home great prizes.
Also on the occasion various food stalls had been set up with delicious food on display, which were eagerly devoured by the hungry throngs. It consisted of a variety of sumptuous traditional delicacies like Awadh ki thandai, Baliya ka bati-chokha, Kolkata ka Rossogulla and Banaras ka meetha paan all of which added flavour to the colourful occasion.
