Afghan religious official killed in explosion


Kabul, May 9 (IANS): A senior religious official was killed on Tuesday in an explosion in Afghanistan's Parwan province, officials said.

"Chief of Provincial Ulema Council Abdul Rahim Shah Hanafi was killed following an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion inside a seminary school," Xinhua news agency quoted the officials as saying.

The attack took place when Hanafi was holding a class in the provincial capital city of Charikar. Seven students were injured.

No group has claimed responsibility yet.
