Moodbidri, Mar 28: A protest against National Highway authority was staged under the leadership of former Moodibidri MLA Abhayachandra Jain here on Friday March 28.

The protest was staged criticizing the NH authorities of issuing notices to shop owners and residents along the NH 13 to vacate their places. NH 13 passes through the town.

Demand for a bypass road has been in the docks since 1990 but it has been repeatedly put down due to political conflicts among the parties and other legal issues. Now, things have to a boil with authorities demanding the residents to vacate their houses and shops, thereby inducing them to launch this protest.

A memorandum was submitted to the government through Moodbidri tahsildar Achuthan on the occasion.

Municipal member P K Thomas, Dayan Serrao, Rathnakar Devadiga, ex-municipal member M K Iddinabba,Thimmayya Shetty of Pancharathna International, manager Govindan, Padival hotel owner Harshvadhan Padival, Suresh Prubhu, Suresh Kotian, Vasudeva Nayak and others were present.
