Food people's choice: Allahabad High Court

Lucknow, May 13 (PTI): The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday directed the Uttar Pradesh government to renew licences of legally operated abattoirs in the state.

The court also directed the state government to issue new licences to slaughterhouses if they fulfilled the conditions laid down under the rules.

It said that the government had no authority to prevent someone from eating the food of their choice.
The matter will come up for hearing again on July 17.

In the last hearing, the court had said that the food habits of the people were not only part of the “secular culture” but were also part of “right to life”.

Hundreds of “illegal” slaughterhouses and meat shops were sealed across the state after the BJP government assumed power. Closing “illegal” slaughterhouses was part of the BJP’s election manifesto and officials were given strict orders to close all such shops and abattoirs.

Please note that UP government has not closed down any legal butchery. It had closed down all illegal slaughterhouses. The other legal slaughterhouses closed down on their own in protest of govt. move, by stopping beef availability in the market.

This ruling was in response to a PIL by a man who complained that beef was not available because of government's move .

So Lydia and other staunch haters of BJP government should tell me whether closure of 'illegal' slaughterhouses is right or wrong?
It is the illegal slaughter houses which accept stolen cows, because of which some youth are prompted o steal cows from cowsheds for easy money, which leads to communal tensions all over.
I endorse one legal slaughter house for every taluk, where legally/honestly procured cattle can be slaughtered in a hygienic atmosphere.

    Shankar,

Foremost, branding slaughter houses illegal is wrong, legalize them because they are part of food suppl to the local market. When they are not legalized, illegal trade/theft takes place. Let there be abundance, no theft will take place. Let there be animal husbandry for market supply as there is poultry, piggery, dairy - there will be no havoc around. Have you ever questioned from where the meat for export comes ? It comes from farms where the cattle is raised for this very purpose. Will you dare to cross those gates and worship the cows there ? Impossible. The rich owners will shoot you down for trespassing !

Please separate the animals you worship from the rest, keep those in your houses and worship as you wish. Do not let them astray to feed on garbage and still call it your mother, you are setting a wrong example. Else, as your mothers were used to feed the zoo in the past, since they are in shortage, one of you her sons/daughters volunteer to be fed to the animals because you have by your actions curtailed the supply. When such an opportunity comes, I bet, you will temporarily change your name !

If you will ask me if you must offer yourself to slaughter houses too, mark my words some day such day too will come just as wild animals come to human habitats in search of food.

Consequences of disturbing the food chain !

    Sri,

Does it apply to you just because the product is Beef ? Will you ever question why there are several illegal paan-beedi shops ? So many illegal spirit brewing units ? So many illegal flesh trade centers ? So many Peepal trees with a 'Katte' anywhere hindering a highway expansion ?

Look, gentleman, when demand increases, people rush to provide it by wrong procedures. One advantage of this is that people get jobs, their families have food at the end of the day. Curtailing them will make the supply further short and jobs reduced, people end up starving - both the suppliers as well as the buyers. You have a brilliant option - have a cow of yours own and worship - you will be free of any sin. What others do shouldn't be your responsibility.

Else, voice to end all the illegal activities int world some of which I've listed above, don't be a hypocrite !

    Lydia,
I totally agree with your words in the first paragraph.
Being very practical, i restrict my self from believing nonsense. But at the same time i do respect what others believe. I suggest you too should develop the same habit.

Worshiping cows might be a holy ritual for some. Leave it to them, do not mock at it. You believe in immaculate birth, I respect it though, i have my own reservations in believing that.
'People see homosexuality a taboo, but worship an offspring of homosexual relationship.' These are not my words, but I picked one from one of my teacher from Kerala, who is a staunch communist--a real one.

    Shankar,

If you don't believe in immaculate conception, my faith/belief does not become any less. If Vishwamitra can have a child upon sighting Menaka which is nothing more but a story to me, so for you can be immaculate birth a story. If Shiva/Parvathi could have famous children without physical touch, immaculate birth can also be possible.

I didn't mock cow worship - its a paradox that you are in a country that tops in beef export but you are telling me not to speak against cow worship or demanding to ban beef for citizens. Are you aware of something I don't ? Is the meat that is exported, developed in lab or aren't cattle raised for this ? Have Al-kabeer and other brands certified document/declaration that no cow meat is in their export consignment ?

As for homosexuality, it isn't a taboo anymore. The society is slowly accepting relationships deviated from marriage. It requires a bit more time by when man/woman marriage will come down in huge numbers. Especially if we don't budge from our stubborn imposition of our worship method on others. Then, there will be no religion, leave alone worship method ! In general, I am not singling our your faith.

One legal slaughter house for ONE TALUK.... What a NONSENSE....
The buyers have to travel 40 -50 Kmts to buy the beef. and the farmer has to travel same distance to sell his cattle.... and while bringing the beef from the Taluk HQ... the BD goons will be ready to attack the beef carriers like VULTURES ....
Cows stolen from cow sheds... another NON SENSE...

Nobody can force their practices on others
Nobody can steal livestock of others
Nobody can lynch someone for livestock
Nobody can force anything down their throats

Well, people are buying meat from legal slaughter houses. Has anybody thought how the animals in the zoo are fed after beef ban in several BJP ruled states ? Its double standard people - the zoos can't afford mutton, nor can the animals made to eat dal-chaaval.

Its an eye-wash that cattle slaughter is said to be banned controlled in numbers) or for peoples' consumption but for carnivore animals int he zoos, whether slaughter houses exist or not, meat has to be provided.

@Milan- in 2014 general election India selected bjp with 280 plus seats.
    Congress reduced to 44.
People were desperate to change government because of upa scams.
For the majority peoples alignment towards bjp you cannot make evm responsible.
Congress got defeated because they deserve it.
In UP mulayam and mayavati and akilesh got defeated because they deserve it.
    Majority people responsible for it.
And it takes many decades for people like you to digest it because it was unbelievable thing for many...just like heegu unte?

    Sri,

People wished for change in Delhi too. What did AAP, with so many promises in store to offer, do ? It too is involved in scam ?

No doubt people wished for a change in 2014. Tell me - what good did people experience ? Scam-lessness ? I am sure you don't the list of scams to be listed down, achieved in just three years - do you ?

What did India achieve in 'Make in India' 'Swachch Bharat Abhiyan' ? How much percentage reduction in soldiers' succumbing took place on the border ? How much cheap petrol/cooking gas / food commodity is available as compared to post 2014 ? How much Black money is retrieved from Swiss Banks ? How many illegal Bangla/Paki citizens overstaying in India deported ? May I know ?

Look gentleman, whether Congress, BJP, AAP or any other party, corruption will not end until me and you are ready to refrain from giving bribe. Just take an example - right time to stand outside our education institutions and observe how many parents are queuing up to negotiate on a donation figure to enroll their child. Only when we at primary level ensure end of corruption, our governments will be clean, irrespective of party we elect ! But this is impossible even if you go back no just 70 but 100 years ! Meaning, we must start our level from more than 100 years back. Imagine India's position !

This is happening in YOGI's land ? Good news.

Stop calling the slaughter houses illegal, legalize them because people need affordable food. Stop imposing motherly feelings on the public, have your own cattle, protect them and look after them till/after their death. Do not let them roam on highways or feed on garbage.

Let there be cattle that is not yours about which you should not worry. Just as the canine that is kept as pet whom people treat like their children, They vaccinate them, hug them, train them. But those that are stray, that live at will are culled upon exceeding in numbers.

Remember, people have started to say 'enough is enough'. An ex-army officer's wife has sent 56" blouse to the PM.
