Dubai, Mar 30: The death toll from the warehouse explosion in Dubai last week has now risen to eight, it was confirmed yesterday. The massive blast early on Wednesday morning took place on the Al Quoz industrial estate, in an illegal fireworks warehouse. Dubai Civil Defence had been on scene until yesterday morning,

Two bodies were originally recovered on the day of the explosion, another on Thursday night, and the charred remains of five more people were discovered on Friday - taking the death toll to eight. The bodies have now been sent to a forensic laboratory for identification.

Immediately after the explosion, Dubai was gripped in panic, as thick, back smoke drifted for miles across the city’s skyline, sparking fears that a bomb had gone off. One of the deceased was Filipino Ramilo Anaolaya, 30, who tragically just happened to be cycling past the warehouse when it exploded.

There are fears of yet more fatalities with two people still reported missing. Police have already arrested the owner of the warehouse.
