Mangalore, Mar 31: Golden jubilee celebrations of Concepta Hospital Kinnigoli run by Bethany Congregation will be held on Wednesday April 2.
The stage programme will be presided over by Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore, Superior General of Bethany Congregation Sr Jyoti, provincial Sr Inviolita B S, Immaculate Conception parish priest Fr Alfred J Pinto, Moodbidri Alva's Educational Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva, Kinnigoli GP secretary Umavati will be the chief guests of the occasion, informed Concepta Hospital director Dr Lillian.
The late Fr Jacob Lobo who was the parish priest here had laid the foundation stone for the Concepta Hospital, on a 5 acre plot with just Rs 10,000 on Feb 5, 1957, after realizing the need for a hospital in the vicinity, with the consent of the late Bishop Basel Peres.
Concepta Hospital began functioning from April 13, 1958, with the blessings of Bishop Basel Peris. Both in-patient and out-patient departments were introduced at the hospital during the administration of Fr L A M Fernandes who succeeded Fr Jacob Lobo. Mobile hospital began functioning from 1971 in the surrounding Neerude, Niddody, Damaskatte, Balkunje and Kateel areas. A 24-hour Intensive care unit (ICU) was introduced in 1983 when Fr Aloysius D’Souza was the director.
The hospital has been efficiently managed by Dr Lillian for the last 22 years with the assistance of 4 regular medical officers and 10 visiting doctors and 30 nurses. Altogether 70 staff are employed at the hospital.
‘Sanjivini’ unit of Concepta Hospital under the administration of Sr Anita Frank has been striving to provide medical care to rural women and children.
The golden jubilee building was blessed and inaugurated by Fr Patrick Rodrigues on May 26, 2007.
Hospital has been undertaking several programmes, information and health check-up camps for the benefit of rural masses in the neighbourhood. The hospital has 50 special beds, 6 special rooms and 10 semi-special rooms, separate for men and women patients.
24 hours ICU, x-ray, laboratory, treatment for snake bites, maternity facility of 16 beds, ultrasound and ambulance services etc services are available.
