Mangalore: Assembly Poll in DK, Udupi Districts on May 16

Mangalore, Apr 4: Following delimitation of constituencies by the election commission, Dakshina Kannada district is all set to face the impending assembly polls with eight assembly constituencies.
The district now has 1,271 polling stations and 13,26,693 electorates as against the 13,94,217 electorates before the delimitation process.
As announced earlier, assembly poll in the state will take place in three phases on May 16, May 10 and May 22, 2008. Udupi and DK districts will go for assembly poll on May 16. The result will be announced on May 25.
As per the sources, Sullia assembly constituency is the largest with 171 polling stations whereas election commission has identified Mangalore Assembly constituency (erstwhile Ullal assembly constituency) as the smallest assembly constituency with 129 polling stations. Parts of Vitla assembly constituency are merged with Bantwal, Puttur, Mangalore and Mangalore north as per the directions of election commission, sources added.
The delimitation of constituencies has also brought significant changes in the number of voters and polling stations. Belthangady, Moodbidri, Mangalore North, Mangalore South, Bantwal and Puttur assembly constituencies have 165, 157, 165, 155, 169, 160 polling stations respectively, source added.
