Mangalore, Apr 7: The city unit of education resource centre has taken up a five-day drive to apprise students from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes on education opportunities beginning from Sunday April 6.

The drive has been organized by the local unit of eduaction resource centre in association with the block education office, Ganjimath gram panchayat and Gram Panchayat education committee of Ganjimath.

Speaking on the occasion, director of Valored Reni D’Souza said that the ‘Kalajatha’ an awareness rally was a part of the drive which will pass through Vamanjoor, Gurupura-Kaikamba, Ullal-Thokottu junction, areas in Ullal town municipal council limits, Ullal Deralakatte, Mulki-Karnad Junction an Katipalla. The rally was inaugurated by Abdul Majid, president of the panchayat.

The aim of the rally is to visit the SC and ST communities to recognise the dropouts from the school and to encourage them to rejoin school. A feedback will be taken from these communities which will be submitted to the education department, which in turn will help them to find solution and to come up with the special programmes in the next academic year.

Majid said that Ganjimath Gram Panchayat would ensure that children in its limits return to schools from next year. He also said that the gram panchayat had heped children to rejoin the school in the past and it will continue to help the SC/ST communities in this direction.
