Gurgaon: Five-year-old twins die after getting locked in car for over 2 hours

Jun 15: In a heart-wrenching incident, five-year-old twin sisters died after being accidently locked in a defunct Hyundai Elantra car for over two hours in Pataudi's Jamalpur village in Gurgaon on Wednesday June 14 at around 2 pm.

The twins Harsha and Harishtha, who live in Meerut had come to spend their summer vacations with their grandparents living in Pataudi.

Relatives say that the twins loved playing with puppies that stay under the car for shelter. However, they are not allowed to play outdoors without supervision and are usually accompanied by a teen cousin.

On the fateful day, the cousin was out for some work and the girls sneaked out to play with the puppies on their own.

According to the girl’s uncle Vikram Yadav, the locks of the car don’t work and only the front door of the car opens from the inside.

Around 4 pm, the relatives noticed the girls to be missing. The car was one of the first places to be searched and to their horror they found the girls unconscious and rushed them to Rockland Hospital. They were declared brought dead. In the excruciating heat, the girls trapped inside the car had suffocated to death.

"The post-mortem has been conducted and the bodies have been handed over to the family. We are conducting further investigations in the matter but, so far, there seems to be no indication of foul play," says ACP Manish Sehgal, PRO of Gurgaon Police.

The family remains inconsolable. The twin’s father Gobind Singh is an Army Constable posted in Meerut. The family moved with him and the twins were admitted in Central School, Meerut. In a matter of fact, the twins along with their mother Kirti were slated to return to Meerut on June 14.

so easy to comment... no parents can take the risk on their kids... especially such small kids. It's just a fateful day for this family. But yes, a second of cautious would have saved these 2 angels. Family will never forgive themselves in their life time. but others, please don't comment against the family and pour fuel to the fire on them please...

A lot of parents and guardians have this sick habit of leaving children behind in locked cars. We hear of these stories every other day and yet this habit continues. I simply cannot understand this madness.

What kind of comment is this? Parents lost their twin daughters and you are giving such sarcastic comment instead of consoling them.
