ITBP officer dies, 14 pilgrims injured


Jammu, June 29 (IANS): An Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officer deployed on Amarnath Yatra duty died of heart attack on Thursday while 14 pilgrims were injured in a road accident in Jammu and Kashmir.

ITBP Assistant Sub-Inspector Sanjun Singh died at the Baltal base camp area in the morning, officials said.

"The officer complained of chest pain. When he was shifted to a dispensary, doctors declared him dead," a police officer said.

Meanwhile, bus carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh to the Kashmir Valley collided with a truck at Lakhanpur on the Pathankot-Jammu highway in Kathua district.

The injured, including 14 pilgrims, were shifted to a hospital at Kathua, police said.
