Mangalore, Apr 21: Human Rights Commission has issued notice to the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada directing to provide explanation of handing over plot of 82.62 acres to the Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Ltd (ISPRL) which was acquired for the first phase of Special Economic Zone.
Human Rights Commission has stressed in the notice that explanations must be provided in six weeks.
Land of 1800 acres was acquired in Permude vicinity in the name of the first phase paying off Rs eight lacs per acre, but the same land was sold at Rs 50 lacs per acre. Displaced and local Krushi Bhoomi Samrakshana Samithi objected to this development and pressed that the compensation paid off to the displaced must be Rs 50 lacs.
The directives gained momentum following the allegations that SEZ is another form of real estate and land mafia, which buys fertile farm land at small amount and sell the same land at large amount.
