Kundapur, Apr 22: Honorary treasurer of state Kannada Sahitya Parishat Ponddalika Halambi inaugurated the mass wedding ceremony of Marathi community at Kolluru Mookambika hall here recently.
Speaking on the occasion he said mass marriages are a boon to the economically weaker sections of the society. The Marathi community known for its hard work has done a commendable job in arranging for such a function which in the long run would mitigate the allied problems such as the dowry menace and the escalating cost of individual marriages especially in these days of inter-caste inter-communal marriages, Halambi said.
The vice-chancellor of Mangalore University Dr K Sunder Naik and his wife were felicitated by the president of Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishat U Chandra Shekhar Holla. Madava Poojary of new Shanthi Sagar group of hotels distributed the mangalsutra and other wedding garbs to the newly-married couples with blessings.
Former MLA of Byndoor K Gopal Poojary, the zilla panchayat president Raju Poojary, taluk panchayat president Raju Devadiga and Udaya Kumar Naik were present as chief guests.
Bhasker Naik proposed the vote of thanks.
