Chandigarh, Jul 11 (IANS): After a delay of over 12 days, monsoon finally arrived in Chandigarh and parts of neighbouring Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday morning with some showers.
Chandigarh and its surroundings experienced moderate rainfall.
There were also reports of light to moderate rain in parts of Punjab and Haryana.
The monsoon, which was expected to hit the region around June 29-30, was delayed this year.
This led to humidity and higher temperature at most places in the plains of Punjab and Haryana. The maximum temperature was between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels at a high of 70 to 95 per cent, Met officials said.
The officials said the monsoon had weakened after reaching Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) areas late last month.
More thundershowers and rain was expected across Punjab and Haryana over the next two-three days.
