Gujarat textbook terms 'roza' as 'infectious disease'

Ahmedabad, Jul 11 (PTI): A class IV Hindi textbook of the the Gujarat State School Textbook Board has defined the Urdu word "roza," which denotes the fasting during the holy month of Ramzan, as "an infectious disease that causes diarrhoea."

The serious error figures in the glossary carried at the end of legendary writer Premchand's story "Idgah."

In this section, "roza" has been defined as "ek ghaatak tatha sankramak rog jisme dast aur kaai ati hai" (a dangerous and infectious disease entailing diarrhoea and vomiting)."

The bloomer, dubbed as a "printing error" by the textbook board Chairman Nitin Pethani, has been brought to light by education rights activists, who wanted it to be withdrawn as it hurt the religious sentiments of a section of people.

They said they will make a representation to the State Education secretary and GSSTB chairman seeking withdrawal of the textbook.

"We believe that the mistake is a deliberate attempt to hurt the religious sentiments, especially of the minority community members. We had earlier brought to the notice of the authorities derogatory words used for Jesus Christ," said Mujahid Nafees, an activist.

Pethani, however, maintained that the mistake was a printing error that appeared in the current edition of the textbook even though its online version does not contain the error.

"The present book was introduced in 2015 but did not have any such error in the past. The printing error appeared in its current edition, of which 15,000 copies are in circulation," he said.

Earlier, a Hindi language textbook for class 9 had addressed Jesus Christ as demon by prefixing "haivaan" before his name, a blunder which had left the Christian community fuming.

Though it's a mistake as they claim, why only the sentiments of minorities? Sometimes "roza" and sometimes "Jesus" (pbuh) ?

Roza is one of the most difficult sacrifices, I think, and there should never be a deliberate insult on that. It is with the permission of RSS. God sees the truth, but waits. Konda paapa, tindu parihara. These people will get their rewards.

There's a concerted attempt by vested interests emanating directly from the upper echelons of the present regime to subvert the secular nature of our society.
The very first step in this direction is teaching an inclusive version of history to our impressionable children so that they won't grow up to become standard bearers of bigotry.

The BJP’s rewriting of textbook history will do harm to our children. Hitler induced such theory into education system to subjugate the Jews. Ruling BJP is from RSS political wing whose Guruji once praised the Hitler in the book 'bunch of thought' is doing the same.
We all seen the powerful Germany is crumbled to the dust. Is 'Digital India' , 'Smart India', is going the same way?
This nothing but deliberate mistake for which publisher should face hefty penalty and jail term.

These kind of thought process/mentality emerge only when the mind & wisdom of a person/people is conditioned to believe some kind of information/phobia..., prompting themselves feel inferior and the effort to come out of such inferiority is probably prompting such kind of thought process end up doing/causing such kind of self proclaimed error (aka printing error...!!!)

Strong secular thinking Hindu's definitely don't succumb to such kind of vulnerability ..., FEKU Hinduism practitioners on the rise..., Only secular thinking Hindu's can defeat degenerating of Hinduism in the hands of FEKU Hindu's...,
