Has Aadhaar invaded privacy? SC sets up 5-member bench to hear plea

New Delhi, Jul 12 (Deccan Chronicle): Chief Justice of India JS Khehar, on Wednesday, agreed on setting up a five-judge Constitution bench to probe the issues that are by-products of Aadhaar, especially the most discussed - right to privacy.

The hearing for the same has been dated for July 18 and 19.

Requesting an early hearing, the Centre on Wednesday had said, "Millions of people are involved in the outcome of the case."

Attorney General KK Venugopal, pleading for the Centre, and Shyam Divan representing the petitioners, pressed the apex court for an early set up of the Bench on Aadhaar.

On June 27, a vacation bench of Supreme Court refused to pass an interim order against Centre's notification making Aadhaar compulsory in order to avail social schemes and welfare benefits. The government had, however, said no one would be deprived of any benefit because of Aadhaar.

Earlier, the court stated that no interim order could be passed on grounds of petitioner's "apprehension" that somebody might be deprived of benefits, since no victim of such a situation has come forward.

SC was hearing three separate petitions challenging Centre's notification to make Aadhaar mandatory for social schemes.

It had in turn passed several orders directing the government to not make Aadhaar mandatory to an extent that it affects social welfare schemes. It, however, allowed the Centre to seek Aadhaar voluntarily for providing benefits of schemes such as LPG subsidy, Jan Dhan Yojana and Public Distribution System.

Only in India the citizens of the country need multiple identification for proof for various government machinery.
To date no one has clearly understood which government document is most valid for the citizen of India.
Most NRI have only Passport which is recognised internationally. They don't hold any other document. Those NRI have equal rights like other citizens of India?
    I would request Supreme Court consider this issue in their next hearing;
1.which document issued by government is most valid?
2 How secure is the Aadhar card from personal identification theft?
3.I would also like to question why Aadhaar card can't replace voters ID for those eligible to vote?

I have always felt that the information taken under Aadhaar has been left dormant. I say this because by now every (or majority of) citizen/s have their Aadhaar ? If so, out of so many offenders, could not one be traced as per finger prints recorded in the data ? Why so many rapists, murderers, bank robbers have to be searched through manual hunt or video clippings only ?

Make use of the data, let the police/criminal have the access to finger print information so that the scheme can be used and efforts made shorter.

Do you think those offenders have aadhaar card?
Searching 1 billion finger print no good choice. You may also get multiple people with same finger prints.
I think people who are serving jail term and coming out on bail have any id cards or address?
