MANGALORE, May 1: More than 200 people from the Muslim community joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday in the presence of senior leaders, at the party office here.
The former MLA N. Yogish Bhat and party candidate for Mangalore South constituency said that there had been a communication gap between members belonging to minority communities and other communities.
This should be addressed, he said.
Referring to Bengre, an area dominated by members of the Muslim community which has been included in the constituency following delimitation, Mr. Bhat said that the area lacked basic health and civic facilities. The party was committed to addressing these issues, he said. Mr. Bhat added that the party manifesto had given indications about ameliorating the socio-economic conditions of people belonging to minority communities and backward sections of society.
Mr. Bhat lauded the initiative taken by the former chairman of Karnataka State Minorities Commission Anwar Manippady in addressing issues faced by people belonging to minority communities.
He hoped that the new members would work for the victory of party candidates.
