Probe after 98 scotch bottles go missing from testing lab

Chandigarh, Jul 22 (IANS): Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Friday ordered an inquiry into the disappearance of 98 bottles of Johnnie Walker brand scotch from the Punjab State Drug Food and Chemical Testing Laboratory.

The Chief Minister directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to get the matter thoroughly investigated and submit the report in two weeks.

As per media reports, the scotch bottles had been deposited with the lab in Kharar town, 20 km from here, as sample of liquor seized by the Punjab Police.

"The incident came to light when a raid was carried out by the Vigilance Department at the premises of the laboratory on a complaint about the irregularities in the testing of liquor and drug samples received by it," an official spokesman said here.

The Chief Minister said: "No laxity would be tolerated in the matter especially in view of his government's commitment to the elimination of the drugs menace from the state."
