Mangalore, May 1: The hopes of 15 potential election candidates were dashed on Wednesday April 30 as their nominations were rejected by the election officials. As many as 60 nominations were accepted and considered to be valid.
The nomination papers were scrutinized at the election offices of each constituency. Following is the list of candidates rejected:
Mangalore South: Sathish Prabhu (BJP)
Mangalore: Santhosh Kumar Rai (BJP)
Bantwal: Thungappa Bangera (BJP), Mohammed (JDS) and Norbert Rodrigues (JDS)
Puttur: Dr M K Prasad (BJP), B Purushottam Rai (Congress) and Sathish Nayak (Congress)
Moodbidri: Bhaskar (BJP) and Satish Bhat (BJP)
Mangalore North: Mumtaz Ali (Congress) and M Shankar Bhat (BJP)
Beltangady is the only constituency where all the nominations have been accepted. Three nominations in Sullia were rejected.
In Udupi, seven nominations were rejected out of which three were of BJP, one BSP and the rest indepenent candidates.
