Daijiworld Media Network - Karwar

Karwar, May 3: The two Konkani organizations, Konkani Bhasha and Sanskriti Kendra at Sadashivgad and Konkani Bhasha Mandal at Karwar, in a memorandum submitted to the deputy commissioner, demanded the voters' list and ballot papers in Devanagari script.

The majority of people in Karwar taluk have Konkani as their mother tongue and so they do not follow Kannada properly. To enable the Konkani speaking people to exercise their franchise in the assembly elections, the Devanagari script should be used for the voters' list, the memorandum said.

The law of the land is to respect the 'nela, jala and bashe' of the state where one reside. Nothing wrong in speaking whatever mother tongue at home. But expecting mother tongue to be the official language of state and not ready to fall in line, reluctance to learn the local language of state is nothing but pre-conceived notion. Either they got to learn to live here peacefully otherwise choose the place, where the language they understand happens to be state official language also.
