Mangalore, May 4: St Vincent Paul Society (SVP) of Rosario Cathedral organized a mass marriage ceremony in the city on Sunday, May 4.

Louis Pinto, president of Mannd Sobhann, was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, he said that, marriage is an important medium for realizing God’s plans. Therefore, marriage marks a special occasion in everyone’s life, he opined.

Many families are struggling hard after marriage owing to heavy expenditure they incur during the marriage ceremony. But SVP of Rosario Cathedral has shown the way to cut down expenses. Couples should take steps to control their expenses in their daily life and lead a happy life, he advised.

A total of 21 couples entered into wedlock on this occasion. They were presented with household materials and fixed deposits of Rs 15,000 per couple.

Rosario Cathedral parish council vice-president Felix Albuquerque and SVP president Rudolph Tauro were present on the dais.

Fr Stany Goveas, parish priest of Rosario Cathedral, welcomed the gathering. Ida Furtado compered the programme.

Earlier, nuptial mass was held at the cathedral which was celebrated by bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza. Nearly 1500 people were present on the occasion.

Well done! Congratulations! The very best in life! Is this all what we have to say for the commendable deeds of the SVP. Instead of lauding them, we could help to make life better for our less privileged brethren. Would appreciate if Daijiworld Website could intimate us about these events, before they take place, so that we can contribute our mite for such events.

I fully agree with Dr. Urban's comments/message. We christians are competing each other to show our richeness by spending money even borowing loanas for the purpose of mariages/other functions. In my opnion, all functions should be simple. It is very easy to tell but when it comes to our turn we are also forgeting and follow the same. To do this, people should have the courage to face the society as well as the relatives. The elders/parents should encourage the young ones regarding unneccesary expenses of mariages/functions.

Well done & Congratulations to all the 21 couples who entered into the wedlock. Indeed all the good wishes and congratulations to SVP Society. We Catholics are the immature people(inferiority complex rather) who spend life time money on wedding parties. I too one among all those who arranged such a filmy style wedding party at Bendur Hall and spent around Rs 1.5 lakh in the year 1995. At the end people remember your wedding party for all the wrong things and being young couple, we think it is a big achievemnet(but loan to be repaid rest of one's life).

I think we need to be more practical and must avoid these kind of showy filmy wedding styles. Money saved in this waste parties can be utilised for better things. But may be like me, everyone realises the mistake much later by then he must be paying the huge loan with interest for the drama of wedding party.
