Mangalore, May 6: The Border Security Force (BSF) soldiers carried out march-past in the sensitive areas across the city on Tuesday May 6 morning.
The march-past was held through the communally-sensitive areas of Bunder, Kudroli, Car Street and around abattoir areas. Bunder police sub-inspector Umesh Shet and sub-inspector Kiran led the march. BSF soldiers also marched past other communally-sensitive areas such as Katipalla, Krishnapur and Suratkal which had seen the worst of communal riots during October 2006.
Police sources informed that a platoon of BSF soldiers has reached the city to provide security here. Additional platoons are likely to arrive ahead of the assembly polls, sources added.
It was for the first time that BSF jawans were pressed into security duty during the polls in the constituency which was managed by the personnel from state Reserve Police Force in the past. It was quite clear that the district administration would not give any scope for law and order disturbances ahead of and during the forthcoming polls.
