Mangalore, May 7: There will be a great threat to secularism if BJP comes to power in the state. The massacre of minorities in BJP-ruled states like Gujarat and Orissa are the best examples for the fascist policies adopted by the party. This party is controlled by RSS and has never respected the democratic values of the nation, said Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, home minister of Kerala.

Addressing the CPI (M) election campaign meet in the city on Tuesday, May 6, he said that Congress is not an alternative for BJP. Congress has totally failed in controlling communal clashes in the country. Congress and BJP represent two faces of the same coin, he opined.

Prices of essential commodities have gone up in the country at an alarming rate. The economic policies of BJP-led NDA government have resulted in price rise. The state governments which are ruled by left parties have been successful in controlling the prices. The ration system implemented by left parties is the solution for price control, he added.

About 60 lac people have been covered under welfare fund in Kerala where CPI (M) is the ruling party. CPI (M) is also fighting at the national level for women's rights. Such a party which has always worked for the backward and downtrodden should rule Karnataka also, he said.

Congress-led UPA government can not run without the support of the left parties. Leftists have been fighting against the proposed nuke deal, which is a threat to nation’s sovereignty. That is why the UPA government has not signed this deal yet. The entire nation will be benefited if left parties become strong here, Balakrishnan said.

CPI (M) state committee secretary and labour leader V J K Nair said that no country built on the basis of religion has developed properly. BJP should understand this truth, he advised.

Mangalore is a city of working class people. Therefore, the working class should elect the leader who can represent them effectively, he said.

Mangalore South CPI (M) candidate Yashwant Maroli, Mangalore CPI (M) candidate Yadav Shetty, DYFI leader Sunilkumar Bajal, CPI (M) state leader G N Nagaraj and others were present on the dais.

I agree with Mr.Balakrishnan's statement that BJP and Congress are the two faces of same coin. It’s true that CPI (M) has no face at all. That is the reason it’s restricted for two states in INDIA. Instead of delivering statements about other state politics, better you speak about Kerala politics, just go back one month how many murders took place in (Kasaragod!) Kerala
