Bangalore, May 7: BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate today agreed that the lack of winnability factor weighed against minorities while issuing tickets but promised to induct a person from the minority community into the cabinet soon after the BJP assuming power.
Addressing a press conference in the city Mr Yeddyurappa pointed out that as a result of his two budgets a large number of minorities, especially Muslim youth were joining and strengthening the party all over the state. “The state is witnessing a kind of political polarization which will have an impact on the national political scenario”, he pointed out.
He said the Karnataka elections will have 3 repercussions in the national political scenario such as political polarization at the centre, postponing of mid term elections to the Lok Sabha and it would catapult NDA government at the centre under the leadership of Sri L K Advani.
Confident of his party’s victory he said “I do not believe in surveys whether pro or anti but my party is confident of getting a majority in the assembly elections. It is my resolve to make the Congress and JD(S) sit in the opposition for the next 20 years”.
Mr Yeddyurappa ridiculed Congress leader Mr S M Krishna’s new found love for Mr Deve Gowda and said that it is an indication of their coming together in future. He said “Instead of holding a mid-term poll Congress and JD(S) could have come together and formed another coalition and rule the state for another 20 months.”
He also criticized the Congress and the JD(S) for making Mr Bangarappa a scapegoat to fight a proxy battle in these elections at a time when his health was failing him
The BJP received a shot in the arm when SP state Treasurer Paramashivayya and three more SP candidates from Shivajinagar, Mahalakshmi Layout and Magadi joined the BJP in the presence of Sri Yeddyurappa.
