Mangalore, May 9: Bharatiya Janata Party leader M.S. Kotiyan, who had contested as the party’s candidate from Moodbidri Assembly constituency twice, resigned from the party on Thursday.
The party also suspended Mundala Mohan Alva, BJP Yuva Morcha president of Puttur Assembly constituency, and Amala Ramachandra, Yuva Morcha general secretary, for “anti-party activities”. K. Monappa Bhandary, president, district unit of BJP, in a press release here stated that the two Yuva Morcha leaders were campaigning against Mallika Prasad, the party’s candidate for Puttur. Instead, they were campaigning for Shakuntala T. Shetty, an independent candidate. They had given statements against the party leaders. “Hence, they have been suspended from the primary membership of the party,” the release said.
Ms. Shetty is the former BJP MLA from Puttur. She is contesting as a rebel candidate there.
