Udupi, May 9: Tebma Shipyard Ltd has said that a slipway to facilitate the boats of fishermen will be constructed soon after getting an additional 10 acre of land, said director of Tebma M M Kamath here on Thursday May 9.
Addressing media persons vice-president Karunakar Gambir and director M M Kamath said that they will fulfil the heeding demand of fishermen to build a slipway. They said that the work assigned to Tebma Shipyard Ltd and the director ports and inland water transport was the operation and maintenance of slipway and its machinery at Malpe fishing harbour on build-operate-transfer (BoT) basis.
When Tebma did not take up the construction work of slipway the fishermen community got annoyed and blamed Nagaraj Shetty, V S Acharya and Udupi MLA K Ragupathi Bhat for not putting forward their request. However, following the protest staged by the fishermen last week the company has agreed to construct the slipway.
