Haryana stalking case: Footage from 9 CCTVs 'missing'

Chandigarh, Aug 8 (Deccan Chronicle): In what has come as a major embarrassment for Chandigarh Police, the footage of nine CCTVs installed along the road on which Varinka Kundu, 29-year-old daughter of an IAS officer was allegedly stalked by the Haryana BJP chief’s son, Vikas Barla, has gone missing.

Apart from rising political pressure, this has come as a major setback to the police investigation in the high-profile case. The police has written to the National Informatics Centre to retrieve the footage at the earliest.

The Congress on Monday accused the ruling BJP of “conspiring to hush up” the case.

All India Congress Committee media in-charge Randeep Surjewala said the Chandigarh police comes directly under the Union home ministry and the Centre is trying to protect Subhash Barala and his son. He said, “The Union home ministry is conspiring to hush up the case in a bid to protect the Haryana state BJP president and his son.”

“Will PM Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah tell the nation why they (Subhash Barala and his son) are being shielded,” he asked. “Even before one has lodged a case, the CCTV footage goes missing,” he asked.

Varinka alleged state BJP chief son, Vikas Barala, 23, and his friend Ashish Kumar, 27, chased the victim while she was driving alone on her way home on Saturday. They even tried to open the door of her car, she alleged. The duo was arrested after she filed a police complaint.

In spite of harrowing incident and criminal act by the chiefs son & companion, some political leaders try to defend the bad incident blaming the lady for her movement (here she was driving) late at night. Same thing happens on rape cases too. Also, blame western way of dressing etc.
I am sure that Varinka is a bold lady and she tried her best to avoid the goons by diverting the road, using mobile to communicate and spoke to area police. Kudos to the young lady. Please fight till the truth is brought to light.

Just imagine how many poor girls' life may have destroyed by this rascal and his group which has been hushed up by Delhi Police. They are like dogs who taste the blood. Only way is to search and shoot them like shooting at mad dogs. Females are not safe when such mad dogs are free on roads.

    Corruption everywhere.
From politicians, their sons, Police & law enforcement, Central control room where CCTV footage is stored. Everywhere BJP's hand is very clear.
Times now fully highlighted the victims cause and fighting for justice. Today morning I watched full incident as re-enacted by the victim along TV crew and a reporter.
Wrong developments at a right time when people boast of BJP rule.

    RonRon,

''Welcome to the world of BJP Rule....... clean like present Ganga River''

Blaming just one party is unfair. Do you think such things don't happen in non-bjp states??? Do you think if the govt is changed and some other party comes into power such acts will stop?

The answer is no. Stop being partisan. We people have to stop taking sides of this criminal infested corruption ridden political parties. The bottom line is that if we take sides of these parties then we become the part of the problem.

    Stop voting criminals into power.

    Justice Katju`s quote:
''90 percent of Indians are fools. ''
Then he explained how he arrived at that figure by saying, "...what I meant was that an overwhelming number of Indians were fools. Therefore the figure might be 85 per cent, on the other hand it could be 95 per cent."

I agree with him 100%. This is the state of condition in our country.

    HENRY MISQUITH,

Welcome to the jungle that is India.

This news should not be shocking. I also bet there they also might be pressuring the family of the girl to take back the complaint. Also, police are trying their best to close the case.

I also won't even be surprised if the son of the politician who harassed the girl gets elected in the future.

We, the people should blame ourselves for this.

WOW...... I never expected this. (that's sarcasm)

Again I am being proved right. I always say how we elect people with criminal minds into political positions. The elected criminals then use police as their personal thugs to trouble common man into subjugation.

    Our polticians are criminals.
Our Police are useless and are a tools for criminal politicians.
