Rahul violated protocol, did not use bullet-proof car: Rajnath Singh in LS

New Delhi, Aug 8 (Deccan Chronicle): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday accused Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi of violating protocol on his recent visit to Gujarat last week.

Singh was responding to allegations by Congress members in Lok Sabha that Rahul could have been killed in Gujarat where stones were pelted on his car.

Singh told the Lok Sabha that the Gujarat Police was informed two days in advance before he arrived in the state.

“Rahul Gandhi is under SPG protection. The state police had made adequate arrangement for the visit. He was even provided a bullet-proof car. But he opted for a non-bullet proof vehicle. He should have listened to the advice of security personnel. But he did not,” he said.

Singh added that had Rahul used vehicle provided by police, the incident could be avoided.

Responding to the issue raised by Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Singh said the nation as well as the House want to know what Rahul wants to hide by not taking SPG protection along, when he left India on six occasions totalling 72 days.

Earlier, Kharge alleged that if one of the stones had hit their leader, he could have been killed.

Later, Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day amid Congress protests over the attack.

When Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on 21 May in Sriperumbudur 1991 while campaigning for general elections, Chandra Shekhar was Prime Minister.

vajpayee became PM only in 1996..five years after Rajiv's Death.

Shame on the BJP for trying to find fault with the victim and protecting the criminal/offenders. Besides this stone throwing case at Raga there is this Haryana BJP president's son alleged stalking and attempted kidnapping case which their party is trying to defend at the same time confuse the media by taking opposite views. One MLA defends the guy but Kiron Kher accuses him. All nautanki.

What difference does it make for the stone pelter if Rahul was travelling in bullet-proof car? He would have anyway pelted stone since it's the culture that he has imbibed from his political bosses. Is using bullet-proof car prevents stone-pelting? Does Raj-Nut seem to say that the BJP youth wing leader who pelted stone already knew that Rahul wasn't using bullet-proof car? Whether it was bullet proof or non-bullet proof, stone would have still be pelted. It's the failure of the administration and lapse in security that they could not stop person from doing so. The question here not why car glass cave in but how and why a person could breach all security rings and manage to target Rahul's car?

So do you mean to say if Rahul had availed bullet proof car service, no stone would have been pelted on him? Was the stone pelted because Rahul refused to travel by bullet proof car?
