BJP will take legal steps over EC decision: Gujarat CM

Gandhinagar, Aug 9 (IANS): Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Wednesday said that the Congress won the Rajya Sabha election from the third seat in the state because two votes were invalidated and the BJP will explore legal options to challenge the Election Commission's decision.

Rupani told reporters after Congress leader Ahmed Patel won the bitterly-contested Rajya Sabha election that Congress support had actually come down from 57 MLAs to just 44.

"The Congress earlier had 57 MLAs and along with their allies they had the support of 61 MLAs. But they were reduced to 44 MLAs. Out candidate lost by just half a vote," he said.

Referring to EC's decision to invalidate the votes of two Congress rebels, he said the BJP does not agree with it.

"We don't agree with the EC's decision, we will take all possible legal action. The two disputed votes, which were invalidated, had they been counted, we would have won," he added.

He also added that the Congress in Gujarat is "split vertically and has no future in the state".

    This is the beginning of revival of Congress party. I am sure, their sunken morale will little bit boost in the Rajya Sabha election winning lone seat in Gujarath and also a slap on the face of Amit Shah, who was boasting of Chanakya Character plus using money, muscle, power.

    This may also the down fall of BJP. There are many BJP members who are not happy with the dictatorial attitude of Amit Shah. Let us wait and see.

    Hope these law makers will work for the Country, irrespective of religion, caste and creed.

    Followers of BJP's dirty politics will not be surprised that BJP is challenging the EC decision. BJP has grown accustomed to winning elections through cheating and will not rules and legal regulations to stand in the way of its power grab;

    The man is known to make loose comments without thinking, just like his predecessor. Not too long ago, the same Rupani came up with the idea that he wanted to turn Gujarat into a 100% Vegetarian state, meaning he wanted to completely ban non-veg food in the state. That idea did not find many takers.
    Similarly, rather than being a sore loser, gracefully accept that all the money and muscle power that GJ and central govt put in humiliating Congress through Ahmed Patel, did not work and Amit Shah lost this ego battle.

    The fable of Fox and the Grapes. Go to the Judiciary you will get the most stringent verdict which you will remember for life. Such precedents from the Election Commission and the Judiciary will bring in a lot of cleansing in our political system.
